Insurance Premium Tax Online

  • Designed to standardize the collection process and eliminate the guesswork for insurance companies.

  • LAMATS will work closely with the LA Department of Insurance to maintain a complete database of insurance companies reporting business in your municipality.

  • LAMATS will invoice each company for the required tax and monitor the payment until the municipality has received full tax payment for the year.

  • Upon receipt of annual tax payment, LAMATS will issue the appropriate license.

  • Insurance companies will be required to contact LAMATS, not the municipality to answer questions and resolve payment matters.

  • Throughout the year, LAMATS will provide comprehensive reports detailing all tax payments and a status of any outstanding tax.

Cost

  • The fee is 3 percent of the taxes collected. This covers all expenses, including mailing, invoicing, reports and limited payment resolution efforts.     In test cases reviewed by LAMATS, this fee is likely to be considerably lower than the current cost to municipalities and is essentially off set by reducing delinquent or uncollected taxes.
