Memorial Celebration for Julian Dufreche

The Louisiana Community Development Authority (LCDA) recently honored their late chairman, Julian Dufreche, by paying an emotional tribute during their annual Board of Directors meeting in Baton Rouge. Dufreche passed away in January 2017, leaving an indelible mark on the residents of Ponchatoula and Tangipahoa Parish as the longest-serving elected official from this community. LCDA officers and staff welcomed Chairman Dufreche’s family including, Janet (wife), Strader and Julieanne (daughters), Melissa (daughter-in-law), and Danny (brother), and presented the family with a beautiful memorial to recognize the 20 years of selfless service to the Authority and 42 years in elected office. Lt. Gov. Crowned Cotton Fest King

VILLE PLATTE—During this year's Cotton Festival in Ville Platte, LaMATS board member and Ville Platte Mayor, Jennifer Vidrine, crowned Louisiana's Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser King of the Cotton Festival for 2017. Ms.Tara Elizabeth Babin of Gonzales was crowned Queen Cotton 64th. According to the website louisianacottonfestival.com, Ville Platte's Cotton Festival is held each year in October. The Louisiana Cotton Festival Association was incorporated in 1953 to organize the annual event, which is reported to have been started by World War II Veterans as part of their traditional July 4th celebration. Mayors Address Jefferson Chamber; LaMATS Co-Sponsors Event

Mayors David Camardelle (Grand Isle), Belinda Constant (Gretna), Tim Kerner (Jean Lafitte), and Ben Zahn (Kenner) were recently recognized at a luncheon sponsored by the Jefferson Chamber, and co-sponsored by LMA, RMI and LaMATS. The luncheon forum provided each mayor an opportunity to share their successes, challenges, and future plans for their communities. Mayor Constant highlighted Gretna’s first-ever Comprehensive Plan and important core infrastructure improvements like the 4th St. extension.
